Balts are usually subdivided into three main groups: Prussians, Lithuanians and Latvians. They can be further subdivided into tribes or regional populations.

Lithuanians:

    Aukštaitians (highlanders),
  • Samogitians (lowlanders)

Latvians:
    Curonians (Cours),
  • Latgalians (Letts),
  • Semigallians,
  • Selonians

Prussians:
  • Bartians,
  • Culmians,
  • Galindians,
  • Nadruvians,
  • Nattangians,
  • Pogesanians,
  • Pomesanians,
  • Sambians,
  • Skalvians,
  • Warmians,
  • Yotvingians (Sudovians)
