SESSION OVERVIEW

Friday, September 24

Registration - 5:00 pm, Conference Center

Reception - 6:30 pm, Pima Ballroom
The reception included complementary hors d'oeuvres, provided by the Arizona Chapter of the Lithuanian-American Community (LAC), and a cash bar. Both His Excellency Vygaudas Usackas, Lithuanian ambassador to United States, and The Honorable Stephen Mull, U.S. ambassador to Lithuania, were present and graciously posed for photographs with Session participants and other guests.

Program - 7:30 pm, Navajo Ballroom
The program was started by Dr. Regina Narusis, head of the Presidium of the LAC National Board of Directors, who introduced the evening's speaker, Ambassador Usackas. Ambassador Usackas acquainted the audience with the current political and economic situation in Lithuania. The ambassador was followed by a short video about the activities of the Arizona Chapter prepared by architect Vytautas Petrulis, and an introduction to the internet websites - www.lithaz.org and www.virtualmuseum.us - maintained by Dr. Rimantas Vaitkus, current president of the governing board of the Arizona Chapter. Then, dr. Vaitkus presented the results of a survey addressed to the presidents of LAC chapters, concerning possible changes in LAC bylaws to increase the influence of LAC chapters on the issues before the National Board of Directors, along with other proposals submitted by the respondents to the survey (Bridgeport, Brighton Park, Cape Cod, Colorado, Daytona Beach, East St. Louis, Minnesota, Lemont, Long Island, Manhattan, Newark, New Haven, St. Petersburg, and Sunny Hills chapters). Liuda Flores, representative of the Houston Chapter, rose to share her ideas about future goals for LAC.

Fr. Russell J. Roide, S.J., Pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Phoenix, was recognized for his contributions to the Jesuit school in Lithuania. Antonija Petrulis presented Fr. Roide a plaque from the Arizona Chapter of LAC.
The Honorable Stephen Mull, U.S. ambassador to Lithuania, was introduced by dr. Regina Narusis and spoke about his impressions of Lithuania.
Sunday - September 26

Mass - 8:00 am, Navajo Ballroom
Mass was celebrated by Prelate Edmundas Putrimas and Rev. Jaunius Kelpsa, assisted with readings by Juozas Polikaitis. Julius Veblaitis played musical selections on a violin and Antanas Polikaitis lead the singing.
